Production of Levulinic Esters by Heterogeneous Catalysis with Zr Metal–Organic Frameworks in Pressure Reactors

Abstract: In the field of biomass valorization, the use of levulinic acid, a platform molecule to obtain products with higher-added value, has attracted research interest in recent years. Therefore, the present work proposes the synthesis of levulinic esters by means of catalytic esterification of levulinic acid with methanol, ethanol, and butanol. For this purpose, metal−organic framework UiO-66-NH 2 catalysts have been synthesized, with zirconium as the active metal, 2-aminoterephthalic acid as the binding agent, and … Show more

“…Compared with homogeneous acid catalysts, heterogeneous acid catalysts are easily separated and reused after recovery, and they are more suitable for continuous industrial production. 66 Heterogeneous catalysts including molecular sieve zeolites (Entries 1−8, Table S1), solid super acids (Entries 9−16, Table S1), sulfonated carbon materials (Entries 17−23, Table S1), heteropolyacids (Entries 24−31, Table S1), and so on for the preparation of LEs are given in Table S1.…”
