Prognostic and Survival Factors in Myxofibrosarcomas

Abstract: Aim. Our study aimed to determine prognostic factors for survival and recurrence in myxofibrosarcomas based on the experience of a single institution. Methods. Patients who had been diagnosed with a myxofibrosarcoma were identified from our database. Survival and recurrence were evaluated with Kaplan Meier survival curves for univariate and cox regression for multivariate analysis. Results. 174 patients with a diagnosis of myxofibrosarcoma were identified. Two patients were excluded due to incomplete informati… Show more

“…1B) (p=0.021). To further test the importance of this grouping, we performed a multivariate analysis adjusting for tumor size, the most important known clinical predictor in myxofibrosarcoma (4, 2325). Both variables were independent predictors of DSS: tumor size as a continuous variable had a hazard ratio of 1.15 (p=0.010) and cluster 1 vs cluster 2 membership had a hazard ratio of 5.26 (p=0.014).…”

“…6,11,12,1618 Size <10 cm was significantly associated with improved DSS and DRFS on multivariate analysis. Despite this association, among UPS patients, even those with small tumors had poor outcomes (35% DRFS at 5 years).…”

“…The management of LGMFS is aimed at taking care of high recurrence rates and therefore wide local excision with adjuvant radiotherapy is standard protocol for peripheral LGMFS 10. Reported recurrence is as high as 60%, irrespective of histopathological grade 1.…”
