“…Nonetheless, in the previously mentioned study of 187 patients, 59% of whom had advanced-stage disease, 39% of relapses occurred within the first year despite an overall median interval of 35 months (15). In another study of 127 patients with Stage IA-IIIB HL, 63% of whom had early-stage disease, 24% developed relapses in the first year and an additional 20% within the next 12 months (16).…”

“…Unlike our population, only 26% of their patients developed relapses in the mediastinum; however, similar to our findings, extranodal involvement was a frequent site of relapse (51%), most commonly in the lung (21%) (15). Another study also found that the lung was the most common site of extranodal relapse in both patients treated with radiotherapy alone (14%) and those treated with a combined modality (18%) (16). We are in the process of studying the sites of disease involvement on presentation in the entire cohort of patients who were treated for HL at our center between 1999 and 2006, regardless of relapse status or treatment with HDC/ASCT, and we intend to compare the data between the groups.…”

“…Patients with lymphocyte predominance or nodular sclerosis histology fared better than those with mixed cellularity or lymphocyte depletion. Ten-year freedom from relapse for patients with favorable histologies was 67%, compared with 47% (P=0.04) for patients with unfavorable histologies [13,14,28].…”

“…Approximately 15% to 35% relapse (4)(5)(6)(8)(9)(10)(11)(12)(13), in whom salvage chemotherapy or combination therapy yields new remission in most cases (75% to 90%) (9,10,12,14). Approximately 75"h to 90% of patients with localized Hodgkin's disease who receive radiotherapy are alive after 10 to 20 years (4, 1 I , 13,15).…”

“…If patients primarily received combination therapy, the results of salvage chemotherapy were poorer: only 60%) achieved new remission, 80% of whom had relapsed again within 10 years (10). (7,10,14).…”
