“…14 In a recent meta-analysis, Zhang et al 15 found that miR-155 expression was associated with lower overall survival for leukemia patients, and concluded that it may be a promising prognostic biomarker for this patient population. One previous study performed on transgenic mice found that overexpression of miR-155 causes a lymphoproliferative disease resembling the human diseases, which suggests that miR-155 is involved in the pathogenesis of ALL and high-grade lymphoma, 13 miRNAs regulate expression of mRNA posttranscriptionally and influence the direction of lymphoid precursor maturation in specific stages of lymphopoiesis.…”

“…This was in agreement with our results; we found miR-155a to have significant expression levels in highrisk ALL patients. Studies done by Ward et al 1 have shown that miR-181 acts as a tumor suppressor in the pathogenesis of AML and was significantly correlated to the survival of patients with AML, an earlier report by Zhang et al 15 has also proven that downregulation of miR-181a expression was associated with poor prognosis in patients with cytogenetically abnormal acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The data on the link between miR-181a and ALL high-risk characteristics is scarce and needs further research, our results could not establish a significant relationship between miR-181a and high-risk ALL patients.…”

“…Several miRNAs have been studied for their diagnostic, prognostic or therapeutic potential [ 73 ]. Results of a meta-analysis of miR-155 and its role in overall survival of AML and CLL patients indicate that high miR-155 expression is associated with lower overall survival of patients, making it a promising prognostic biomarker [ 74 ]. Six miRNAs were identified to have potential diagnostic and prognostic uses for AML.…”

“…In non-small-cell lung cell carcinoma, the effect of miR-155 expression on patient survival was dependent on the histological subtype, with negative effects of increased miR-155 expression in adenocarcinoma and decreased miR-155 expression in squamous cell carcinoma [43]. However, in general, increased miR-155 expression is associated with worsened survival in tumor patients, as seen in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [6], colorectal carcinoma [44], hepatocellular carcinoma [45], breast cancer [46], glioma [47], osteosarcoma [13], or leukemia [48].…”
