Progress on pharmaceutical drugs, plant extracts and ionic liquids as corrosion inhibitors

Abstract: In the past, lives and wealth have been lost due to corrosion in almost all engineering fields. Not only this, the cost of reviving damaged equipments in the industry due to corrosion contributed a lot to the gross domestic product of a nation. Thus, all hands must be on desk to combat this harzadous act via time to time research on its final resolution. However, current research works have revealed effective and reliable corrosion inhibitors from pharmaceutical drugs, plant extracts and ionic liquids as organ… Show more

“…[ 40 ] As a solution to overcome this problematic, the use of corrosion inhibitors, such as organic‐based compounds, is required. [ 41 ] Recently, the Monte Carlo simulations have been used to investigate the adsorption process of several organic inhibitors onto different metallic surfaces. [ 42 ] Conferring to the obtained computational data, the adsorption energy (or binding energy) was effectively correlated with the observed inhibition effectiveness.…”

“…Accordingly, the use of corrosion inhibitor compounds is practical and an attractive method. 3 To date, several organic molecules have been used as corrosion inhibitors, and among them, amino acids have been broadly investigated as ecofriendly and cheap anti-corrosion compounds for different metallic materials in various corrosive environments. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10] In addition to the ecological advantage of amino acids, they are characterized by the presence of different heteroatoms (e.g., O, N and S) and eventual unsaturated bonds within their molecular skeletons.…”

“…Drugs are nontoxic and cheap, so most of them can be produced from natural materials thus they would be insignificant negative influences on the environment. Accordingly, it would be a good alternative for the previous traditional toxic inhibitors [15,16]. The drugs selection as corrosion inhibitors depends on (O, N and S) as effective centers and they can be produced and purified straightforwardly [17][18][19][20].…”
