Projected changes in mean annual cycle of temperature and precipitation over the Czech Republic: Comparison of CMIP5 and CMIP6

Abstract: The multi-model ensembles like CMIP5 or CMIP6 provide a tool to analyze structural uncertainty of climate simulations. Currently developed regional and local climate change scenarios for the Czech Republic assess the uncertainty based on state-of-the-art Global Climate Model (GCM) and Regional Climate Model (RCM) ensembles. Present study focuses on multi-model spread of projected changes in long-term monthly means and inter-annual variability of monthly mean minimum, mean and maximum daily air temperature and … Show more

“…The results show that significant changes in European summers have already occurred and are expected to intensify in the future, leading to widespread dry conditions that are more extreme in the south. If only the effect of precipitation is taken into account, the contrast between the wetter conditions in the north and the drier conditions in southern Europe is apparent [54][55][56][57].…”

“…Thus, daylength was the only metric with a positive effect connected with solar irradiance. Since the effect of RDR and SDSI on the growth of canopy trees was negative, it cannot be said that this was a positive effect of solar irradiance, but rather a ‘side effect’ of: (1) generally favorable temperature and precipitation patterns at the beginning of the growing season compared with summer and autumn conditions (Holtanová et al ., 2022); and (2) a possibly longer period of time when favorable conditions (intermediate solar radiation) were present.…”

“…This area covers the Czech Republic and has been previously used for GCM and RCM evaluation over this country (e.g. Holtanová et al 2022Holtanová et al , 2012. The GCM subset for the inner domain includes 14 GCMs less than the sample available for the upper air variables (for the lists of the models see Table 1).…”
