Projections of the prevalence of hyperglycaemia in pregnancy in 2019 and beyond: Results from the International Diabetes Federation Diabetes Atlas, 9th edition

Abstract: This study aims to examine the projected HIP prevalence in 2030 and 2045 using multiple methods. Methods: The International Diabetes Federation Diabetes Atlas 2019 prevalence was projected to 2030 and 2045 by: (1) carrying forward the 2019 age-adjusted prevalence rates; (2) applying a linear regression of the past four editions of the IDF Diabetes Atlas; (3) applying a regression of the previous editions with the most consistent trend, followed by extrapolation from the 9th edition HIP estimate. Results: Respe… Show more

“…The estimates are based on the most recent highquality epidemiological data available. Estimates and projections for hyperglycaemia in pregnancy (HIP), including GDM are provided in a separate paper (Simmons et al, in press) [9]. The complex and important aspects of diabetes in the elderly population are the subject of a separate paper in preparation.…”

“…However, if this does not recover or reduced, this figure is expected to rise around 700 million by 2045 and based on records, almost 49.7% was undiagnosed and living without knowing they had this disease 2 . Globally, based on the records, 374 million of people is at risk due to the developing in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hence these evolution is increasing awareness of people about T2DM 3 . Type 2 diabetes mellitus or shortly known as T2DM is a type of diabetes disease that has features of insulin resistance from the decrease in the peripheral glucose uptake in most of the targeted tissue.…”

“…Open access pregnant women have a severe deficiency of vitamin D. 1 Vitamin D deficiency is also common among pregnant women in China. The TG/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) ratio may be a good marker to identify insulin-resistant Chinese individuals 4 and is positively associated with diabetes risk.…”

“…The total prevalence of GDM in China is 14.8%. 1 Because of the adaptations to pregnancy, pregnant women will have some physiological changes in lipid metabolism. 2 Vitamin D is a necessary fat-soluble vitamin for the human body; it is involved not only in regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism, but also in improving insulin resistance, regulating insulin secretion and blood lipid metabolism.…”
