“…We derived the data for this report from a large-scale multi-site cluster randomized controlled trial with parallel data collections taking place in Cape Town and Mankweng, South Africa, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania [9]. In all three sites, there were baseline data collections and two follow-up data collections within a little more than one year (after approximately 6-7 and 12-14 months).…”

“…The audio messages focused on changing HIV/AIDS knowledge and social cognitions (attitude, social norm, self-efficacy, response efficacy, vulnerability, and condom use intention) in order to promote actual condom use. The results of this study show that social cognitive theories are not only relevant in predicting condom use behavior in Africa (Boer & Mashamba, 2007;Bryan et al, 2006;Bogale et al, 2010a;Giles et al, 2005;Groenenboom et al, 2009;Jemmott et al, 2007;Molla et al, 2007;Taffa, Klepp, Sundby, & Bjune, 2002) but can also be used as an effective means for the design, development, and evaluation of HIV/AIDS prevention messages (Aarø et al, 2005;Fishbein, 2000).…”

“…To be effective, these audio messages have to focus on the psychosocial determinants that are relevant to promote HIV/AIDS prevention behavior (Aarø et al, 2005;Fishbein, 2000;Hornik & Yanovitzky, 2003). The theory of planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991) has been widely applied to explain condom use behavior in Africa (Boer & Mashamba, 2007;Bogale, Boer, & Seydel, 2010a;Bryan, Kagee, & Broaddus, 2006;Giles, Liddell, & Bydawell, 2005;Groenenboom, Van Weert, & Van den Putte, 2009;Jemmott et al, 2007;Molla, Nordrehaug Åstrøm, & Brehane, 2007;Taffa, Klepp, Sundby, & Bjune, 2002).…”

“…Variety of collection of techniques are available in order to use as individual and group counselling, therapies, training, crisis intervention, stress management, motivational interview, guided imagery, behavior analysis and modification, cognitive restructuring and many more as per the obligatory conditions (Karademas, 2009). Cognitive behavioral models are the main base of these techniques which have been associated in the effectiveness of many health conditions including cardio-vascular disorders (e.g., Bellg, 2004;Gidron et al, 1999); diabetes mellitus (e.g., Norris et al, 2001), HIV/AIDS (e.g., Chesney and Antoni, 2002); sexual health (e.g., Aarø et al, 2006) and surgical procedures (e.g., Lang et al, 2000;Petry, 2000) and many more.…”
