Promotion of flu vaccination among healthcare workers in an Italian academic hospital: An experience with tailored web tools

Abstract: The multimedia campaign succeeded with regard to KAP outcomes, but the vaccination rate is still far from the goal of 90%. Due to their impact, especially on younger age groups, web tools deserve to be better studied as effective approach to convey health information among HCWs.

“…However, to date no standardised, global metric exists to measure vaccine hesitancy among healthcare workers. Few studies (4%) involved the evaluation of interventions, vaccine education or other initiatives (Conte et al, 2016; Gilardi et al, 2018; Llupià et al, 2010). Similarly, qualitative studies were poorly represented with only 4% meeting inclusion criteria (Adedokun, 2018; Edge et al, 2017; Sundaram et al, 2018).…”

“…Flu vaccine uptake among the population, moreover, seems to be influenced by regional vaccination strategies [14]. Flu vaccination multimedia promotion campaigns (letters in pay slip and posters) are effective in increasing the number of vaccinated HCWs (7.6% vs. 5.6%, p < 0.005) and their intention to get vaccinated in the future (13.1% vs. 36.6% p < 0.005) [30]. The use of different strategies, including lectures, intranet, and posters may be useful to improve the adherence of HCWs to flu vaccination.…”

“…The other topic within this theme talked about the ongoing research on the study and production of flu vaccines. • Promotion of the flu vaccine: The flu vaccine is promoted every year and studies on the effective promotion of these vaccines have become quite important [31]. The third theme, "Promotion of the flu vaccine" contained tweets which talked about the availability of the vaccine at healthcare centres like "GP surgery" and asked people to protect their families through vaccination.…”
