Proof of Concept of Scalable Integration of Internet of Things and Blockchain in Healthcare

Abstract: The advent of Internet of Things (IoT) brought innovation along with unprecedented benefits of convenience and efficacy in many operations that were otherwise very cumbersome. This innovation explosion has surfaced a new dimension of vulnerability and physical threat to the data integrity of IoT networks. Implementing conventional cryptographic algorithms on IoT devices is not future-proof as these devices are constrained in terms of computational power, performance, and memory. In this paper, we are proposing… Show more

“…Insufficient information may hamper the treatment process. Blockchain technology is used to solve the problem of data fragmentation and helps the healthcare centers to establish a connection among the data repositories that are present in the network [ 58 ]. This further ensures secure and protective sharing of sensitive medical information and increases transparency between the doctors and patients.…”

“…In particular, the smart contract system for healthcare management as been studied, also estimating associated costs in terms of feasibility. A piece of framework that integrates IoT networks with a Blockchain to address potential privacy and security risks for data integrity in healthcare is discussed in [21]. A Medical IoT Device represented by a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ is attached to the patient's body to monitor his/her vital parameters that are stored in an Off-Chain Database that is accessed by doctor, pharmacy and insurance company via a DApp.…”
