Properties of controlled-release formulation of pyrimisulfan as a one-shot herbicide in a paddy field

Abstract: Pyrimisulfan is a novel sulfonanilide herbicide with high herbicidal activities against major troublesome weeds in paddy elds. To use this chemical compound as a one-shot herbicide for rice, we have developed a controlled-release formulation, pyrimisulfan-1 kg granule (containing 6.7 g a.i.). is granule formulation applied at pre-emergence to the three-leaf stage at 10 kg/ha e ciently controlled troublesome weeds, such as Echinochloa spp., perennial weeds, and sulfonylurea-resistant weeds. Furthermore, pyrimis… Show more

“…Furthermore, pyrimisulfan also has good efficacy against troublesome perennial weeds, such as seaside bulrush ( Bolboschoenus maritimus ), spikerush ( Eleocharis kuroguwai ) and threeleaf arrowhead ( Sagittaria trifolia ). Because of its relatively low soil adsorption and high water solubility compared with other rice herbicides, a controlled‐release formulation (6.7 g AI kg −1 granules) was developed for use as a one‐application herbicide and effective tool for rice cultivation in Japan . The pyrimisulfan granule formulation can be applied at pre‐emergence to the three‐leaf stage of rice and exhibits consistent efficacy under simulated overflow conditions.…”

“…[1] In particular,i nt he recent years,t he difluoromethylthio group (SCF 2 H) has attracted special interest from pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry because of its advantageous properties: [2] 1) the difluoromethylthio group (Hansch lipophilicity parameter p = 0.68) is much less lipophilic than its analogous trifluoromethylthio group (SCF 3 ;H ansch lipophilicity parameter p = 1.44), thus providing medicinal chemists the flexibility in adjusting the lipophilicity of the drug molecule; [3] 2) the difluoromethylthio group contains as lightly acidic proton which can act as ah ydrogen-bond donor, and consequently,i ncrease the binding selectivity of the drug molecule with either target enzymes or proteins; [4] 3) difluoromethylsulfide can be selectively transformed into either sulfoxide or sulfone to expand the diversity of the functional groups on ad rug and may change the bioavailability and bioactivity of the molecule.
