Properties of the 13/2+ isomeric decay in201Hg

Abstract: S. T6rm/inen 2,The isomeric decay of the T1/2--94 gs isomeric state in 2~was studied in beam via the reaction 198pt(c~, n). Gamma-ray and conversion-electron spectra were recorded. From the conversion coefficients, the multipolarities of the two depopulating transitions were determined to be M2+ 10% E3 and E2, respectively. These assignments give the depopulating transitions to be 13/2 + 9/2-and 9/2-~ 5/2 , and these thus substantiate the previous suggestion that the isomeric state has J~ = 13/2 +. For the 13/… Show more

“…In contrast to the position of the 2 + quadrupole vibration state for the even Hg isotopes with 190_< A _< 204, the first excited 2 + state for 2~ is at 1068 keV and is of two quasiparticlc nature (mainly rcs;)21 d~/~) [19,21]. Therefore one might expect a quasiparticle nature also for the low-lying levels of Z~ whereas the collective states may have a contribution at higher excitation energies.…”
