“…Although the construct involves both emotional recognition and knowledge (Castro et al., 2016), the ability to recognize and correctly label emotions has been linked to school‐age children's proclivity to lie. For example, a recent study demonstrates that 4–11‐year‐old children's ability to match the correctly emotion of a story character is predictive of their relative inclination to cover up a truth to help another win a prize (Demedardi et al., 2021). Likewise, parental reports of 7–11‐year‐old children's ability to recognize another's emotion predicts their likelihood to lie to comfort a sad confederate in the lab (Nagar et al., 2020).…”

“…In accordance with these data, Etxebarria et al (2015), in a quasi-experimental study with 10-year-old children, found that moral pride (defined as the good feeling that results from doing prosocial acts) promotes future moral behaviour, which means that the experience of moral pride, as an outcome of prosocial acts, increases the intention of doing them in the future. Demedardi et al (2021) study the role that emotional understanding and empathy play in prosocial lying, with children from four to 11 years old. They define emotional understanding as a set of skills that enable a child to understand the nature, causes and consequences of emotions in the self or in the other person and define empathy as an affective response that is originated from the apprehension or comprehension of another's emotional state or condition.…”
