Abstract: cMelioidosis is a severe infectious disease caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei. It is highly resistant to antibiotic treatment, and there is currently no licensed vaccine. Burkholderia thailandensis is a close relative of Burkholderia pseudomallei but is essentially avirulent in mammals.
