Protection effect of intracellular melanin from Lachnum YM156 and Haikunshenxi capsule combination on adenine-induced chronic renal failure in mice

Abstract: This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic effects of oral administration of intracellular melanin from YM156 (LIM) on chronic renal failure (CRF) in mice. The cytotoxicity of LIM was evaluated using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. CRF was induced in mice by chronic dietary adenine intake. We have used this intervention to explore the effects of oral treatment with LIM (100 and 200 mg kg) in CRF mice. The treatment with LIM alone and a combination of Haikunshenx… Show more

“…BUN, UUN and serum creatinine, urine creatinine level are standard clinical indexes for assessing the role of glomerular filtration, the capacity of renal tubules to reabsorb and staging of CRF. [24][25][26][27] Treatment with adenine significantly impaired kidney functions by affecting biochemical parameters of serum and urine as evident from increased levels of serum creatinine, BUN and reduced levels of serum calcium, urinary creatinine and UUN which are consistent with the findings reported in the previous study. [8,[20][21][22][28][29][30] In the present investigation, lycopene treatment improved kidney functions as evident from the reduced levels of serum creatinine, BUN, uric acid, ALP, magnesium and increased levels of serum calcium, urinary creatinine and UUN levels.…”

“…Fucoidan is the main component of Haikunshenxi Capsule. 18 It has been successfully used in the treatment of clinical nephrotic syndrome and early and middle stage of renal failure. It could effectively reduce blood creatinine and urea nitrogen, improve renal function, and alleviate the progress of disease.…”

“…63,64 Furthermore, adenine-induced renal failure results in the enlargement of mouse kidneys, thereby increasing kidney index, a key indicator of renal health. 65 Interestingly, the current data suggest that sheep milk has a significant renal protective effect mediated by its ability to mitigate injury biomarkers. The body weight of mice in the SM group increased by 4.46% and serum creatinine and urea nitrogen content decreased by 26.01% and 27.26%, respectively.…”
