“…A broad range of inflammatory or oxidative conditions have been shown to be impacted by esculetin. These include lung injury and fibrosis ( 356 , 357 , 520 ); fibromyalgia ( 521 ); neuronal oxidative stress ( 522 ); psoriasis ( 523 ); arthritis ( 358 ); nociception ( 359 ); colitis ( 360 ); allergy, immunity, and asthma ( 282 , 354 , 380 383 ); and sepsis ( 361 ). The effects of esculetin on numerous cancer cell types have been extensively studied ( 94 , 321 342 , 519 , 524 , 525 ) and are the basis for efforts to develop novel therapeutics ( 98 , 341 ).…”

“…In rats with colitis, it was suggested by Witaicenis et al that esculetin with a dosage of 5 mg/kg not only increases the defense against ROS but also inhibits the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-lβ, IL-2, and interferon (IFN)-γ, leading to the lower activation and less migration of inflammatory cells (Witaicenis et al, 2013). In mice with fibromyalgia induced by reserpine, esculetin (10 mg/kg) was demonstrated to relieve behavioral and biochemical deficits through the inhibition of the release of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-lβ) as well as the monoamine oxidase-A (MAO-A)mediated depletion of serotonin (Singh et al, 2020). The protective effects of esculetin against atopic dermatitis induced by exposing the ears of female BALB/c mice to dust mites were investigated by Jeong et al The results showed that esculetin in a concentration-dependent manner at doses between 2 and 50 mg/kg decreased the levels of immunoglobulin (Ig)E, IgG2a, and histamine in serum, reduced inflammatory cell infiltration in skin tissue, and inhibited the production of Th1, Th2, and Th17-related cytokines, including TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-13, IL-31, and IL-17.…”

“…12 Therefore, studying the pattern of cytokines and the pathways that lead to the production of inflammatory cytokines in patients with depression can help determine the pathogenesis of the disease. 13 Receptorlike molecules, inflammatory inducers, NLR molecules, and signaling molecules are among the most important molecules that initiate inflammatory responses that increase cytokine expression. 14…”
