“…Li et al [66, 72] observed a protective effect of sericin in hepatic and gastric injuries caused by alcohol in mice. The treated animals showed higher alcohol elimination in urine, and this lowers concentration in serum.…”

“…Zhaorigetu et al demonstrated that sericin protein exerts a suppressant effect on skin cancer (12) and colon cancer (13), while Li et al demonstrated a protective effect of sericin and sericin peptide against alcohol-induced liver and gastric injuries in mice (14,15). Aramwit et al (16) and Ohnishi et al (17) identified a cell-protective effect of sericin on collagen and nitric oxide, and cryopreserved rat islets, respectively.…”

“…It has been considered that these changes in mitochondrial physiology induce the morphological alterations and decreased activity observed in the mitochondria of bovine oocytes and embryos (Nabenishi et al, ; Rivera, Kelley, Erdos, & Hansen, ). Conversely, sericin has been found to restore the normal parameters of antioxidant enzymes in mice and to serve a protective function by reducing ROS production and lipid peroxidation, as well as recovering cell morphology and preserving mitochondrial activity during hepatic and gastric injuries caused by alcohol (Li, Ji, Chen, & Hu, ; Li, Ji, Lin et al, ). Based on these findings, we hypothesized that sericin would alleviate the detrimental effects of HS on the mitochondrial function by maintaining the physiological level of ROS, resulting in the improvement of developmental competence in HS embryos.…”
