Protective potential of royal jelly against cadmium‐induced infertility in male rats

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the protective potential of Royal jelly (RJ) against cadmium (Cd)-induced testicular dysfunction in rats. Thirty-five adult male Wistar rats were assigned into five groups. G I; (control) injected intraperitoneally with saline, G II injected intraperitoneally with a single dose of CdCl (1 mg/kg BW), G III received RJ (100 mg/kg BW/day) orally, G IV was pre-treated with RJ for 1 week then, treated with CdCl , and G V was co-treated with RJ and CdCl . After day 56, serum and tissu… Show more

“…afer leaves could be an indication of atrophy or necrosis. Atrophy was reported in testis of cadmium‐intoxicated animals (Ahmed, El‐Shazly, Alkafafy, Mohamed, & Mousa, ; Haouem & El Hani, ), and hypertrophy was reported in organs of some cadmium‐intoxicated animals (Novelli, Vieira, Rodrigues, & Ribas, ; Pari & Murugavel, ).…”

“…Cd is associated with the development of several health problems, including reproductive dysfunction, renal failure, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders [2]. Moreover, numerous studies have reported that Cd produces reproductive dysfunctions by disturbing the redox balance, blood-testis barrier, sex hormones homeostasis, sperm count, and enhancing germ cells lose [5,6,7]. Although the precise mechanisms of adverse reactions following Cd exposure are not fully explained, oxidative stress has been reported to play a fundamental role in Cd-induced tissue injuries [8].…”
