Proteome Analyses Reveal S100A11, S100P, and RBM25 Are Tumor Biomarkers in Colorectal Cancer

Abstract: Purpose: The prognosis for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is drastically impacted by the presence of lymph node or liver metastases at diagnosis or resection. On this basis it is sought to identify novel proteins as biomarkers and determinants of CRC metastasis. Experimental Design: Proteomic analyses are undertaken using primary tissues from ten Chinese CRC patients presenting with or without liver metastases and immunohistochemistry used to validate selected proteins in an independent patient cohort. “…The dimerized S100A11 acquires the capacity to promote chondrocyte activation through the p38/MAPK pathway, which then accelerates the development of osteoarthritis (Cecil et al, 2005;Cecil and Terkeltaub, 2008; Figure 6). By contrast, rheumatoid arthritis Tanaka et al, 1995;Stulik et al, 1999;Guo et al, 2021 is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease. Andres Cerezo et al (2017) found that rheumatoid arthritis patients have increased levels of S100A11 in their synovial tissue and synovial fluid but not in serum.…”

“…Moreover, they found that S100A11 together with S100A1 and S100A2 was significantly correlated with CRC stage and progression, suggesting that they are among potential prognostic markers [23]. Recently, Guo et al also found that the protein S100A11, amongst others, was upregulated in both non-metastatic and metastatic CRC tissue [24]. Our proteomic results are fully in line with these observations and upregulation was detected with 2D-PAGE in the central part and with 1D-WB analysis in the central as well as in the peripheral part.…”

“…It is also important in the development of HCC [ 20 , 21 ]. While RBM25 has not been previously reported to be involved in HCC, it has been proven to be important in the occurrence and development of acute myeloid leukemia [ 15 ], prostate cancer [ 12 , 19 ], and colorectal cancer [ 22 ]. In acute myeloid leukemia, RBM25 controls the splicing of key genes.…”
