“…The present work has shown that concentration of inhaled particles, and thus probably of inhaled carcinogens, does not occur in scars unless the scars are caused by dust. If this mechanism played a significant part in the production of lung cancer in man, men with silicosis or anthracosis might reasonably be expected to show a higher incidence of lung cancer than the population at large, but this is not the observed finding (Kennaway and Kennaway, 1947;James, 1955;Chatgidakis, 1963;Goldman, 1965). This evidence indicates that concentration of carcinogen in scars plays little or no part in the production of lung cancer in man.…”
