Pseudoterranovosis y sushi

Abstract: A case of accidental ingestion of Pseudoterranova decipiens is reported, on account of this patient we review main concepts related to this emerging pathology in Chile. Consumption of raw fish in different preparations such as sushi or sashimi, cebiche and seafood is becoming more and more popular. Through intermediary hosts used in the preparation, one can acquire the third stage larval of Anisakis simplex or P. decipiens. These parasites frequently cause gastritis, acutely after the consumption of raw fish, … Show more

“…4), differentiation between Anisakis and Pseudoterranova infection may also be possible. Although human Anisakis infections are much more prevalent, pseudoterranovosis is currently arising as an emerging infection in some countries where consumption of raw fish in different dishes such as sushi, sashimi and ceviche is becoming popular [28,29]. In contrast to the failure of the Anisakis dead larvae to induce a good antibody response against the polypeptide t-Ani s 7 in rats, dead larvae were able to induce a strong IgG1 response and slight IgE, IgA, IgG2b and IgG2c responses when nAni s 7 was used as target antigen in capture ELISA.…”

“…In South America, Chile is the country that shows a high prevalence of anisakids in fish , becoming it into a country very susceptible to present cases of anisakiasis in humans. Anisakidae includes 24 genera, three of them with importance in public health: Anisakis, Contracaecum and Pseudoterranova (Jofré et al, 2008). Fish are an intermediate host of the L3 infective larvae, which migrate through the digestive wall reaching abdominal organs such as liver, ventral or dorsal muscles, and surrounding connective tissue.…”

“…El diagnóstico diferencial debe efectuarse con estadíos juveniles de helmintos de la Familia Anisakidae, que pertenecen también al orden Ascaridida, y que son eliminados por la boca 13 , escasos días después de haber ingerido pescado crudo o insufi cientemente cocido (esta paciente había ingerido merluza cruda, como cebiche, 11 días atrás).…”
