Psychosis, psychedelic substance misuse and head injury: A case report and 23 year follow-up

Abstract: It is suggested that psychedelic substance misuse should be investigated as a risk factor for psychotic illness in patients with brain injury, as this case clearly suggests.

“…For some people, negative effects persist for days or weeks, usually depending on how long the transient psychological distress lasts. For some, the risk is greater, precipitating episodes of mania or psychosis (e.g., Sami et al, 2015), and therefore psychotic disorders and borderline personality disorder are potential contraindications, although more research is needed (Cohen, 1985; Rucker et al, 2018).
