Objectives: This study aims to examine the publication or presentation rates of theses in scientific journals and scientific meetings in the field of otorhinolaryngology in Turkey. Materials and Methods:We randomly surveyed 2,705 specialists in the field of otorhinolaryngology in Turkey as of April 2014. Of these, 245 were applied a questionnaire on the continuation of their academic education, qualifications of the institutions where they were graduated from and worked and the status of their theses in terms of whether their theses were converted into a scientific article or presentation.Results: Overall, 47.8% of the participants were still continuing their academic education, while 52.2% were not. The rate of the presentation of the theses at a national meeting was 58.4% and at an international meeting was 10.6%. The rates of publication in a national and international journal were 26.1% and 36.3%, respectively. Conclusion:As the physical and economic opportunities for experimental researches have increased, students have been encouraged to conduct researches and supportive solutions for the publication of theses have been created. ÖZ Amaç:Bu çalışmada Türkiye'de kulak burun boğaz alanında yapılan tezlerin bilimsel dergilerde ve bilimsel toplantılarda yayımlanma veya sunulma oranları araştırıldı. Gereç ve Yöntemler:Nisan 2014 itibariyle Türkiye'de kulak burun boğaz alanında rastgele seçilen 2705 uzman araştırıldı. Bunların 245'ine akademik kariyere devam durumları, mezun oldukları ve çalıştıkları kurumların nitelikleri ve tezlerinin makaleye veya kongre bildirisine dönüştürülme durumlarına ilişkin bir anket uygulandı. Bulgular: Genel olarak, katılımcıların %47.8'i akademik kariyere devam ederken %52.2'si devam etmiyordu. Tezlerin ulusal bir kongrede sunulma oranı %58.4, uluslararası bir toplantıda sunulma oranı %10.6 idi. Ulusal ve uluslararası bir dergide yayımlanma oranları ise, sırasıyla %26.1 ve %36.3 idi.Sonuç: Deneysel araştırmalar için gereken fiziki ve maddi imkanların artması ile öğrenciler bilimsel araştırmalara özendirilmekte ve tezlerin yayına dönüşümünü destekleyici çözümler oluşturulmaktadır.Anahtar Sözcükler: Kulak burun boğaz; yayımlanma oranı; asistan; tez.

A strong organization structure is needed between the medical faculties and training and research hospitals as well as between health workers and other components of the health system in terms of academic activities, patient care services and other clinical applications. Training and research hospitals all around the world are often affiliated with medical schools and work closely with medical students and medical resident doctors. The aim of this study is to determine the advantages and disadvantages of specialty training model in this macro structure and discuss it in the light of the literature. Health Sciences University was founded in İstanbul in 2015 as a new university and a different macro organizational model. In this model, there is a medical faculty with affiliated 56 training and research hospitals and specialized training is under the responsibility of the dean of the medical faculty. In addition to the departments and academic committees that are connected to the dean, a Medical Specialty Training Board under the responsibility of the chief physician has been established. An education coordinator will be determined in every health care department, and it is decided that in every education year formative and summative exams will be held. Designing of electronic files to record performance and to form remote monitoring systems for residents and trainers are planned to be established. As a result, we think that this macro organization structure will have middle to long term benefits to our country. The academic quality and the education standards between Health Sciences University and the affiliated hospitals will be strengthened in the future. It will also help to improve the fields of health such as medical research, education, clinical applications etc.. The success between institutions will be ensured with a good coordination and power-sharing.

Tezlerin konuları, çalışma tipleri ve yapıldıkları üniversiteler kayıt edildi. Daha sonra internet üzerinden üç ayrı kaynaktan tez sahibinin ismi ile arama yapılarak tezlerin herhangi bir dergide yayınlanıp yayınlanmadığı kontrol edildi. In this study, the rates of publications in national and international journals and the factors that are effective in publication were evaluated. M Ma at te er ri ia al l a an nd d M Me et th ho od ds s: : All medical dissertations that have been prepared at obstetrics and gynecology departments of university hospitals and presented between the years 2007 and 2008 were analyzed from the web site of the thesis center of education council. The topics of the theses, the types of studies, and the universities where they were made were recorded. Then the authors's name were searched whether the dissertations were published in a journal or not, by searching the dissertation in three different resources. R Re es su ul lt ts s: : A hundred and fifty-one dissertations were included in the study. Among them, 30 (19.9%) were published in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) group journals, 26 of them (17.2%) were in national journals which are scanned in National Academic Network and Science Center (ULAKBİM) and 3 (2%) were published in non-SCI and non-SCI-E international journals.
