Pure crystal orientation and anisotropic charge transport in large-area hybrid perovskite films

Abstract: Controlling crystal orientations and macroscopic morphology is vital to develop the electronic properties of hybrid perovskites. Here we show that a large-area, orientationally pure crystalline (OPC) methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) hybrid perovskite film can be fabricated using a thermal-gradient-assisted directional crystallization method that relies on the sharp liquid-to-solid transition of MAPbI3 from ionic liquid solution. We find that the OPC films spontaneously form periodic microarrays that are dis… Show more

“…Consequently, XRD measurements for the freezing cold-bathed wet film revealed no perovskite peaks; only the PbI 2 ·NMP adduct complex was observed ( Figure S5a, Supporting Information). [37] For more sophisticated control of the nucleation kinetics, we tuned the composition of the NMP:DMF solvent mixture for dissolving the precursor. The extremely slow crystallization kinetics appeared to modify the preferred orientation into the (112) and (224) planes, which is consistent with the results for perovskite films fabricated without antisolvent treatment.…”

“…Recently, Cui and co-workers demonstrated linear-dichroic photodetectors based on black phosphorus with intrinsic optical anisotropy. [41] Compared to prior reports, [13,18,[39][40][41] the asymmetric-wettability assembly system exhibits versatility by controlling the position, alignment, and crystallographic orientation of perovskite structures. Additionally, considerable attention has been focused on fabricating perovskite 1D structures [13,18,39,40] and controlling the crystallographic orientation.…”
