Pure Egyptian Cattle Bulls Show both Individual Variation and Different Interaction with Extender in the Post-Thawing Sperm Parameters

Abstract: Objectives: As very few studies were done on the freezability of pure Egyptian cattle bull sperm. So, we designed this study to evaluate the individual variations in freezability of native bull semen extended in Tris based diluent and sodium citrate-based diluent. Methods:Semen was collected by artificial vagina, examined at once in farm laboratory. Only semen samples fit the minimum parameters are extended in two extenders first the universal one (TRIS) and second modified Sodium citrate extender by adding gl… Show more

“…The lack of individual variation in sperm abnormalities in fresh semen is in accordance with similar research on the Egyptian bull [13] and Saloia ram [30]. Sperm abnormalities might occur as the result of disturbances in the stage of spermatogenesis or the maturation process in the epididymis.…”

“…The sperm viability findings for frozen sperm are similar to those of Mohammed and Ahmed [13] for pure Egyptian bulls, Marques et al [30] for Saloia rams, and Lukman et al [36] for Bali bulls. The individual variation in sperm viability found in this study might be caused by the proportion of lipid and cholesterol in the sperm membrane.…”
