Purification and Cytotoxicity Study of Lovastatin From Soil Fungi

Abstract: Objective: The objective of the present study is to evaluate the anticancer potential of lovastatin obtained from fungal source. Methods: About 15 fungal cultures were isolated from soil samples collected from Bharathiar University, India, and all are identified and characterized through microscopic characterization. Lovastatin producing capability was confirmed through bioassay against Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the ability of selected fungus to produce lovastatin was further confirmed by high-performance l… Show more

“…The mobile phase consisting of 0.02 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.7) with acetonitrile in a ratio of 65:35 (v/v), 20mL of the sample was injected at a flow rate of 1.0mL\ min. The sample was detected at wavelength 238 nm, where the identity of the compound was confirmed with commercial lovastatin from the company Sigma-Aldrich (Janani et al, 2017). The remaining lovastatin was collected by fraction collectors.…”

“…When in doubt, a concentrate is viewed as dynamic against the two fungi and bacteria if the inhibition zone was more noteworthy than 6 mm (22). Fifteen concentrations for the solutions were prepared (5,10,15,20,25,30,35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, and 75 μg/ml), these solution including nano-silver, partial purified lovastatin, immobilized lovastatin, and distilled water as control. Petri-dish plates consist of Mueller-Hinton agar for bacteria and Sabouraud dextrose agar for C.albicans were used.…”
