Pyroelectric Properties of PVDF:MWCNT Nanocomposite Film for Uncooled Infrared Detectors

Abstract: Pyroelectric multi-walled carbon nanotubes:polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF:MWCT) composite films have been fabricated by the solution casting technique. The pyroelectric and dielectric properties of the composite films were examined for their use in uncooled infrared detectors. The properties measured include: 1) dielectric constants and 2) pyroelectric coefficient as a function of temperature. From the foregoing parameters, materials Figures-of-merit, for infrared detection and thermal-vidicons, were calculated… Show more

“…Recently, nanocomposites composed of ceramic particles and polymer matrices have been fabricated as a means of engineering dielectric, pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties and energy storage capacity [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. Furthermore, reduction is size of high performance electronic devices require integration of passive components such as resistors and capacitors.…”

“…The electrode-limited conduction mechanisms are thought to develop from the electrical properties at the electrode-dielectric contact, and the most important parameter in this type of conduction is the barrier height that occurs at the electrode-dielectric interface [6] [7]. The current due to thermionic emission is highly dependent on the temperature, but the tunneling current is nearly temperature independent.…”
