Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser Therapy of Acquired Bilateral Nevus of Ota-like Macules

Abstract: Background: Acquired bilateral nevus of Ota-like macules (ABNOM) is a dermal pigmented lesion common in individuals of Oriental origin. The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (QSNYL) has been used successfully to treat a variety of benign, dermal, pigmented lesions, including nevus of Ota lesions. The similarity between ABNOM and nevus of Ota suggested that QSNYL may also be effective in the former. Objective: To determine the efficacy and side-effect profiles of QSNYL treatment of ABNOM in Korean patients. Methods: Of 4… Show more

“…A high prevalence (50%) of secondary dyschromia has been reported in the first article using the 755 nm alexandrite QS laser . However, only two transient PIH and no hypochromic lesion were observed the two last studies performed with the 1064 nm QS laser in a total 44 patients Recommendation Acquired dermal hypermelanocytosis must be recognized by clinicians.…”

“…Only limited data exist on the treatment of acquired dermal melanocytosis but in the literature and in our experience, lesions respond very well to QS 1064 or 755 nm lasers in fewer sessions compared to congenital dermal melanocytosis. 43,[93][94][95] A high prevalence (50%) of secondary dyschromia has been reported in the first article using the 755 nm alexandrite QS laser. 93 However, only two transient PIH and no hypochromic lesion were observed the two last studies performed with the 1064 nm QS laser in a total 44 patients.…”

“…Seborrheic keratosis often demonstrates brown macules similar to senile lentigo, although it has more verrucous surface and a darker hue than the latter1. Bilateral, confluent, brown to slate-gray dermal pigmentation favors ABNOM over senile lentigo9. Our study only included the lesions with distinct features of multiple, uniformly colored, and wrinkled around lesions to exclude misclassification.…”

“…Although many treatment modalities have been tried, the most successful means of removal include the use of QS lasers; in individuals with skin of color, use of the longer wavelength Nd:YAG is safest [80][81][82][83][84][85][86].…”
