QR-LRL Signal Detection for Spatially Multiplexed MIMO Systems

3GPP LTE-Advanced systems adopt multiple antennas for high speed data transmission. In general, the receiver complexity of a spatially mutiplexed (SM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system grows in proportion to the number of candidate vectors. A large number of candidate vectors increases the reliability of the soft output values. The maximum likelihood (ML) signal detection with a large number of candidate vectors achieves high performance. On the other hand, low complexity receiver techniques with a small number of candidate vectors provide soft output values, such as low reliability. This paper addresses the improving reliability of the soft output obtained from a small number of candidate vectors. The improved performance of the proposed technique with the aid of computer simulations is reported.

Low-Complexity Soft-MIMO Detection Algorithm Based on Ordered Parallel Tree-Search Using Efficient Node Insertion

This paper proposes an low-complexity soft-output multiple-input multiple-output (soft-MIMO) detection algorithm for achieving soft-output maximum-likelihood (soft-ML) performance under max-log approximation. The proposed algorithm is based on a parallel tree-search (PTS) applying a channel ordering by a sorted-QR decomposition (SQRD) with altered sort order. The empty-set problem that can occur in calculation of log-likelihood ratio (LLR) for each bit is solved by inserting additional nodes at each search level. Since only the closest node is inserted among nodes with opposite bit value to a selected node, the proposed node insertion scheme is very efficient in the perspective of computational complexity. A Novel Fixed-Complexity Signal Detection Technique Using Lattice Reduction for Multiple Antenna Systems

Recently, a fixed complexity LR(fcLR) technique was proposed. Also QR-LRL signal detection method was proposed in which all constellation symbols are tried as the symbol corresponding to the least reliable layer (LRL), thereby achieving high error performance. In this paper, we combine these two efficient methods to propose a novel detection method. When the LRL is disregarded in the process of LR, the worst case complexity of LR is significantly reduced. Also, the proposed method is shown to be superior to the conventional fcLR-based detection method from the perspective of error performance. Simulations are performed to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.
