Qualitative ultrastructural changes and morphometry of deccani sheep spermatozoa preserved with egg yolk citrate extender

Abstract: The present investigation was aimed to study the sequential changes in the sperm cell deterioration dur-ing liquid storage of Deccani sheep breed semen from dilution to 48 h of storage along with its seminal characteris-tics and sperm morphometric measurement. Thus the two Deccani adult rams (aged 2 years), were selected (six ejaculates/each ram) and the collected semen was diluted with Egg yolk citrate extender (EYC) (final concentration - 400 million spermatozoa/0.2 ml semen).Seminal characteristics were ass… Show more

“…Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) provides three‐dimensional micrographs with details of cell surface and depth (McClusky, ). It was a useful tool for the evaluation of the effects derived from the temperature reduction during refrigeration or cryopreservation of the sperm of goats (Chauhan, Kapila, Gandhi, & Anand, ), rams (Rajashri et al, ), and boars (Ringleb, Waurich, Wibbelt, Streich & Jewgenow, ). In addition, transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) techniques provides two‐dimensional images, allowing the observation of the interior of the cells with a wealth of detail.…”
