One of the most important components in the boiler is piping. The piping is the flow of water vapor to the area used for energy conversion. If the piping condition is not good, or in a defective condition will negatively affect the flow of water to be converted into steam. The boiler construction process, in general, can be completed within 2 years. But a common problem is the occurrence of damaged conditions in piping. This study aims to find out the improvement efforts to reduce the defects of welding results in boiler Machine piping using the DMAIC method. The method identifies problems, follows the occurrence of problems, provides analysis to be developed and Controlled. The results of this study explain the Machine aspect that is monitoring the time of use and using the rules on the welding Machine so that there is no more damage; aspects of methods, man, Measurement and management do the agenda at the end of each month and continue to improve the motivation of work; and the material aspect that the supplier sends evidence of materials that are ready to send to Improve the quality of pipes - pipes to be used. Salah satu komponen dalam boiler paling penting adalah perpipaan. Perpipaan tersebut sebagai jalannya aliran uap air menuju area yang digunakan untuk konversi energi. Jika kondisi perpipaan tidak baik, atau dalam kondisi cacat akan memberikan pengaruh negatif pada jalannya aliran air untuk dikonversi menjadi uap. Proses pembangunan boiler secara umum dapat selesai dalam kurun waktu 2 tahun. Tetapi masalah yang sering dijumpai adalah terjadinya kondisi rusak pada perpipaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui upaya perbaikan untuk mengurangi kecacatan hasil pengelasan pada perpipaan mesin boiler menggunakan metode DMAIC. Metode tersebut mengidentifikasi masalah, mengikut kejadian masalah, memberikan analisis untuk dikembangkan dan dikendalikan. Hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan aspek Machine yaitu memantau waktu penggunaan dan menggunakan secara aturan pada mesin las agar tidak terjadi kerusakan lagi; aspek method, man, Measurement dan management melakukan agenda setiap akhir bulan dan kontinu untuk meningkatkan motivasi kerja; dan aspek material yaitu pihak supplier mengirim bukti material yang siap kirim untuk meningkatkan mutu pipa – pipa yang akan digunakan.

In the competitive market of manufacturing, quality is a criterion of primary importance in order to win market share. Quality improvement must be coupled with performance point of view. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, Theory of Constraints, and their combination are philosophies dedicated to this goal. This study is a literature review on the implementation of these philosophies to improve quality of processes and products in a system, and also covers the commonalities and differences with Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) philosophy. In this study, 45 articles have been analyzed. These articles have been selected by a research on several scientific libraries with specific keywords. The methodology is based on a list of information extracted from each paper. The data searched are on the tool selections, critical factors of implementations and the benefits obtained from them. Based on the review and analysis of the literature and practices, we provide the top 10 main components of the tools used for quality improvement, enabling factors, benefits, and barriers to implementation. Moreover, we present and discuss categorization of quality improvement methods and the way toward ZDM. The need of standardized toolkits for different levels of maturity in quality management systems and a better education have been enlightened. Thanks to technological improvement in information flow management, ZDM seems close to be achieved even though some new risks and wastes have to be taken care of within the implementation.

The aim of this research paper is to reduce the defects rate and process variation during production of car side mirror plastic cover. The main purpose of this research study is first one to recognize the root cause analysis of quality problems as well as other surface marks on car side mirror plastic cover. The second purpose is to implement sigma with DMAIC to improve the quality of car side mirror plastic cover. A plastics industry in Pakistan has many quality problems during the production of car side mirror plastic cover such as black dots, air bubbles, flow marks and part hard fitting. Due to process variation, non-conformity increases and poor-quality parts are produced. The industry faces high percentage of wastage, production cost and low customer's satisfaction due to low quality of mould part. The major rejection of moulded part is found due to hard fitting, black dots, air bubbles and flow marks. The Six-sigma with DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analysis, Improve, and Control) was applied to overcome these quality problems and process variation. DMAIC is an engineering technique that can be used in service and production which requires a practical solution. This improvement technique is applied on injection moulding machine 360 tone Tederic manufactured by china Model 2005 which has major rejection rate. This machine had 35% rejection of total rejection before improvement. After development, it reduced to 16%. Four major quality problems are removed and increased the quality level and customer's satisfaction. The reduction of rejection rate and wastage has saved company time, money and improved company sigma level.
