Quality of Information in Mobile Crowdsensing

Abstract: Smartphones have become the most pervasive devices in people's lives, and are clearly transforming the way we live and perceive technology. Today's smartphones benefit from almost ubiquitous Internet connectivity and come equipped with a plethora of inexpensive yet powerful embedded sensors, such as accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone, and camera. This unique combination has enabled revolutionary applications based on the mobile crowdsensing paradigm, such as real-time road traffic monitoring, air and noise p… Show more

“…Actually, many factors could affect sensing task quality, including quality of workers, number of reports for each task, task type, availability of sensors, proximity of sensors to task locations, and so forth. Hence, establishing a sophisticated and practical task quality model is a very complex research issue itself, and several literatures such as [51] start to touch this issue but no perfect model exist yet. In the future work, we attempt to investigate if HyTasker can be extended with more sophisticated task quality metrics, which may result in a completely new research work.…”

“…For this reason, the fields of trust estimation and truth discovery have recently attracted enormous attention from the data mining and crowdsourcing communities [109,110], due to its ability to estimate the reliability degrees of participants and thus infer correct knowledge based on the data without any supervision. On the other hand, existing algorithms were not designed to deal with the unprecedented number of devices that are expected to populate the IoT network.…”

“…By contrast, the atmosphere-centric tasks are to collect environmental data, like images, videos, sounds, etc., such as cyclist and environmental data collection in [18]. In some systems, DCs can provide feedback on the quality of service after they receive the execution results from data providers [59]. Data Provider (DP) refers to a single person or an organization that manages mobile devices.…”
