Oil leak from vehicles is one of the most common pollution types of the road. The spilled oil could be retained on the surface and spread in the air voids of the road, which results in a decrease in the friction coefficient of the road, affects driving safety, and causes damage to pavement materials over time. Photocatalytic degradation through nano-TiO2 is a safe, long-lasting, and sustainable technology among the many methods for treating oil contamination on road surfaces. In this study, the nano-TiO2 photocatalytic degradation effect of road surface oil pollution was evaluated through the lab experiment. First, a glass dish was used as a substrate to determine the basic working condition of the test; then, a test method considering the impact of different oil erosion degrees was proposed to eliminate the effect of oil erosion on asphalt pavement and leakage on cement pavement, which led to the development of a lab test method for the nano-TiO2 photocatalytic degradation effect of oil pollution on different road surfaces.

The pavement skid resistance performance index is one of the most important indexes to ensure driving safety. Based on the test data of RIOHTrack full-scale track, this paper analyzes the decay law of pavement skid resistance performance, including the sideway force coefficient (SFC), British pendulum number (BPN), mean texture depth measured by sand patch method (MTD) and sensor measured texture depth by laser method (SMTD), under different equivalent single axle load times (ESALs). The paper analyzes the influence of different methods and conditions on the different indicators and excavates the internal correlation of different pavement skid resistance performance indexes, aiming to improve the effectiveness and accuracy of pavement skid resistance performance detection. The shortcomings of the temperature correction method of BPN and SFC are verified, which cannot correct the skid resistance performance effectively in different temperatures. Based on the assumption that there is a sensitive range of temperature influence on skid resistance performance, a new temperature correction method of skid resistance performance index is proposed based on the Boltzmann model and equivalent temperature of the asphalt surface layer. It can truly reflect the decay law of skid resistance pavement performance. At the same time, the internal correlation between BPN and MTD indicators is analyzed. It is found that there is a linear growth law between two indexes whose correlation coefficient is 0.999, which provides a reference for the research of pavement skid resistance performance.

As cities grow in size, traffic also increases, thus making the population more exposed to road noise and traffic accidents. It is therefore important to study and understand which properties of the pavement influence its acoustic impact and skid resistance performance. The pavement texture plays a major role in generating noise and friction, and it can be engineered in order to control both of them at the same time. The phenomena regulating skid resistance are well understood today. The same applies for noise generation and propagation; the literature contains methods of designing the pavement surface layer to achieve consistent results. Several types of solutions can be found for asphalt mixtures, most of them derived from decades of studies and research. They use different approaches to be effective for noise and friction, but all have in common the control of the surface’s macro and microtexture. Finally, some considerations are made regarding novel paving solutions with artificial aggregates instead of natural ones to address noise and skid resistance.
