Quantifying CO2 Uptakes Over Oceans Using LIDAR: A Tentative Experiment in Bohai Bay

Abstract: Current observations show that the growth of the atmospheric CO 2 concentration is evidently lower than expected, suggesting that anthropogenic carbon emissions have been offset by some unclear carbon sinks. Oceans and terrestrial ecosystems are supposed to be responsible for the missing carbon sinks (Sabine et al., 2004;Takahashi et al., 2009). Scientists have utilized varieties of means to explore carbon fluxes of terrestrial ecosystems quantitatively in the recent decades, trying to narrow gaps between obse… Show more

“…It is well known that much of the heat from global warming is absorbed by the warming oceans; in fact, global warming is due to ocean warming. The phenomenon in (2), which affects uncovered land areas, has its counterpart in the spreading of "dark algae" in the Antarctic and in the oceans, whose temperatures rise due to global warming [92]. The masses of "dark algae", which do not reflect sunlight, further increase global warming, activating loop (R3), as shown in Figure 7.…”

“…The configuration of A2P at 532 nm is shown in Table S2 [33]. The flight data in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, China, on March 14, 2019 was processed in this study [33,34,50]. The A2P flight tracks last from 02:40 to 03:40 (UTC) and cover ocean, coastal city, town, forest, and mountains etc., which is marked in the red curved line in Fig.…”

“…The airborne ACHSRL prototype (A2P) was developed and an airborne campaign with the A2P was conducted over Qinhuangdao, China, in March 2019, for the evaluation of instrument performance and the validation of retrieval algorithms [32][33][34]. Up to date, the ACDL scientific team is working on the data processing yet for this airborne campaign.…”

“…Ecosystems are vital for human survival and development since they provide tremendous ecological services, including biodiversity maintenance, water conservation, and climate change mitigation [1][2][3][4]. However, with the rapid development of the economy, the process of urbanization has led to enormous irreversible consequences to ecosystems, such as environmental pollution and a decrease in biodiversity [3,5,6].…”
