Quaternary Heusler Compounds without Inversion Symmetry: CoFe1+xTi1–xAl and CoMn1+xV1–xAl

Abstract: Keywords:Heusler compounds / Crystal structure / X-ray diffraction / Magnetic properties / Electronic structure We report the quaternary Heusler compound derivatives CoFe 1+x Ti 1-x Al and CoMn 1+x V 1-x Al, which do not have centers of inversion. Classical T 2 TЈM (T, TЈ = transition metal, M = main group element) Heusler compounds (prototype: Cu 2 MnAl) crystallize in the L2 1 structure, space group Fm3m (225) that exhibits a center of inversion. Replacing one of the T 2 atoms by another transition element (… Show more

“…In order to derive a SC material with a similar lattice it is enough to substitute one Co atom with V. It can be synthesized, for example, by a 50-50 mixing of Mn 2 VAl [27] and Co 2 VAl [28]. The resulting CoMnVAl (SC) compound with 24 valence electrons is nonmagnetic in agreement with the Slater-Pauling rule [29]. The unit cells and corresponding calculated bulk band structures of both Co 2 MnAl and CoMnVAl are shown in Fig.…”

“…Structural details of these alloys were obtained by Basit et al [51] using the room temperature XRD analysis. According to them, the typical SR (111) and (200) However, the exact amount of structural disorder in these alloys has not been reported from the XRD analysis.…”

“…The magnetic properties for these alloys were studied by Basit et al [51] by measuring the magnetization isotherms at different temperatures for CoFe1+xTi1-xAl and CoMn1+xV1-xAl alloys. These authors observed that the parent alloys namely CoFeTiAl and…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, equiatomic quaternary Heusler alloys (with 1:1:1:1 stoichiometry) is explored only very little, but some of these alloys are found to show interesting properties such as high spin polarization and spin gapless semiconductor behavior. 4, [13][14][15][16] The electrical resistivity in equiatomic quaternary…”
