“Raced” Organizations and the Academic Success of Underrepresented Minority Faculty Members in Sociology

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of "raced" organizations and other "raced" activities on the post-PhD career trajectories of underrepresented minority (URM) 1 sociology faculty members as they try to climb the academic ladder to the rank of tenured associate professor. In this article, we provide a longitudinal account of raced organizations and follow this with an analysis of how these organizations may improve the likelihood of climbing this ladder.
