Radiative corrections in neutrino-deuterium disintegration

Abstract: The radiative corrections of order ␣ for the charged-and neutral-current neutrino-deuterium disintegration for energies relevant to the SNO experiment are evaluated. Particular attention is paid to the issue of the bremsstrahlung detection threshold. It is shown that the radiative corrections to the total cross section for the charged current reaction are independent of that threshold, as they must be for consistency, and amount to a slowly decreasing function of the neutrino energy E , varying from about 4% a… Show more

“…We show that radiative corrections generate contributions to EDMs (in the spirit of Refs. [76,77]) sensitive to the same phases entering D t . In both cases, the resulting bounds from the neutron EDM are stronger than the direct experimental limit.…”

“…Neutrino oscillations were taken into account by correcting and combining the electron spectra from CC and ES interactions using the energy-dependent e survival probability from the joint solar neutrino and KamLAND (Kamioka Liquid Scintillator Anti-Neutrino Detector; Araki et al 2005) oscillation analysis presented in Aharmim et al (2005). Additional spectral adjustments were included to account for CC interactions on 18 O, radiative corrections to the CC deuteron cross section (Nakamura et al 2002;Kurylov et al 2002), and the acceptance of the event selection. The expectation for the hep signal is constructed in the same way using the neutrino spectrum from Bahcall & Ulrich (1988) with corrections from Bahcall (1997).…”

“…We note as a final remark that the constant term for the radiative correction to the ratio of neutral to charged current reaction (after the usual outer correction [5,7] for the charged current reaction ) is −0.6%, which may be compared with the claimed error (0.5%) of nuclear calculations for the ratio of tree level cross sections [12].…”

“…The first attempt to calculate radiative corrections for these processes was made by Towner [3]. Some subtleties associated with the integral of the soft photon emission, as questioned in [4], was remedied by Kurylov et al [5], with a careful treatment of the energy-dependence of the wave function overlap between the initial and final states. As remarked by the latter authors, however, there still remains the problem as to the constant terms of radiative corrections.…”
