Inspired by the argument that discussions of the history of management studies commonly suffer from a lack of adequate historical contextualization, this paper offers a re-reading of the work of the well known critic C. Wright Mills. Focusing on Mills’s study of American labour in the 1940’s, we seek to return his work to the conditions in which it took shape: its social, political and philosophical context. We suggest a new way of reading Mills, the manner in which he exemplifies a certain way of leading a critical scholarly life. Mills’s debt to a Socratic tradition of critique is highlighted. We focus on the tentative and provisional elements in his project as he constitutes himself as both political theorist and actor. Without suggesting we aspire to copy Mills and highlighting important tensions, we reconsider the significance of Mills for critical management studies today.

This article is to understand, analyze and interpret the movement diametrically space between idealism and pragmatism transaksionalisme cultural anti middle class groups conducted by using sociological perspectives Imagination C. This article tries to find that the room is diametrically between idealism and pragmatism that appeared in diametraletis middle class anti-culture transaksionalisme get that high integrity to break away from the role of private and public roles, venue selection in anti culture transaksionalisme so they choose a place that can accommodate their anti-mainstream and dare to get out of your comfort zone, to change the system, although the risk will become a person who alienated, unpopular and always in solitude space. Both within political theory and International Relations (IR), recent scholarship has reflected on the nature and limits of political realism. In this article, we return to the thermonuclear revolution and the debates it spurred about what was real and possible in global politics. We argue that a strand of oppositional and countercultural thinking during this period, which we refer to as realist radicalism, has significant theoretical and practical relevance for current scholarship on political realism. Indeed, debates during the thermonuclear revolution speak to questions about the nature of realism and whether it is possible to develop a realism that is attuned to progressive or emancipatory ambitions. By focusing mainly on two radical American intellectuals – C. Wright Mills and Lewis Mumford – we show how their responses to the thermonuclear, superpower standoff challenged conventional understanding of realism and utopianism. By harnessing the concept of the imagination, they called into question pre-existing conceptions about politics and reality. The contribution of the article is twofold. First, we argue that realist political theory and IR should pay more attention to thinkers that are not conventionally regarded as canonical but whose writings and politics interrogated the limits and potential of political realism. Second, we demonstrate that the work of such public intellectuals and their calls for cultivating the imagination connect directly to current debates about political realism, including its statist bend and its (purported) conservatism.
