FeCl 3 coagulation was used to achieve maximum reduction of COD, phosphate, sulfate and color and process optimization (FeCl 3 dosage, pH, reaction time) was done by BBD-RSM. Responses were recorded in terms of EC, COD, phosphate, color and sulfate removal. Variables A (pH) and B (reaction time) were negatively related to removal of COD and phosphate, whereas, C (FeCl 3 dosage) was positive in case of COD removal and negative for phosphate removal. pH and coagulant dosage had negative relationship with color removal; however, reaction time showed positive relationship. In case of percent sulfate removal, variable A (pH) demonstrated negative relationship whereas B (reaction time) and C (FeCl 3 dosage) were found to be positively related. Numerical optimization of the model revealed a maximum reduction of 71, 93, 86 and 99.6 % COD, phosphate, color and sulfate at optimal FeCl 3 dosage = 3 g/l, pH 8, and reaction time = 95 min.

Abstract. In this study, the application of ozonation and ozonation with hydrogen peroxide processes for landfill leachate treatment was investigated. The effluents were characterized by COD 710 mgO2/dm 3 and BOD5 72 mg O2/dm 3 . According to the adopted indicators, the determined BOD/COD ratio of 0.1 in raw leachates indicates a stabilized landfill. Ozone was applied at doses of 0.15 -0.6 gO3/dm 3 , and hydrogen peroxide at such doses to keep the weight ratios of H2O2/O3 0.4 -1.6. The maximum COD and UV absorbance removal was respectively 29% and 51% by applying a high ozone dose of 0.6 gO3/dm 3 . After oxidation, the ratio of BOD/COD was increased from 0.1 up to 0.3. It has been shown that by using hydrogen peroxide in ozonation, organic compounds expressed as COD can be efficiently removed from the effluents. The best conditions for the H2O2/O3 process were obtained with a H2O2/O3 ratio of 0.8 and ozone dose of 0.6 gO3/dm 3 . Under these conditions, the removal efficiency of COD was 46%.

Leachate is a complex wastewater produced through the decomposition and of waste in landfills. Little is known about the method of leachate modified oxidation disinfection of this study was conducted to investigate the possibility of using modified oxidation to remove coliform bacteria from the leachate. This was an experimental study conducted on the leachate of an urban compost plant. The experiments were performed in 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 min, with ozone concentration of 0 and 5 g hG the copper nanoparticles during 80 min which removed 98% of coliform form the sample. Increasing the process time leads to increase of the percentage of coliform bacteria elimination. An increase in the concentration of both ozone and the copper nanoparticles increased the removal rate to 98%. It can be concluded that ozonation process with the copper nanoparticles has a good performance in the removal of coliform bacteria from waste leachate.
