Railway Accident Prevention and Infrastructure Protection

Abstract: Railway accident prevention and protection are a key part of a wider picture of transport safety. The rail sector thus needs to improve its knowledge of trespassing and suicide, including at level crossing, in order to work out suitable responses by analyzing measures already taken in various countries. Governments, the rail industry and road organizations have been implementing a variety of countermeasures for many years to improve railway safety. These actions are substantial and have resulted in a continuin… Show more

“…[6,7]. Some researchers have also defined illegal crossing at a level crossing as trespassing [8] and there has also been a brief reference to people trespassing on the bridge and their behaviour when they detect an oncoming train [9]. As a result, cases of trespassing can be divided into two groups: the illegal crossing of level crossings and trespassing on non-level crossings [10].…”

“…Regarding the railway accident from infrastructure failures, using high technologies and other monitoring techniques can prevent railway accidents [3][4]. Previous studies state that installing technologies can increase safety infrastructure, such as using sensors on the rail network to prevent hazardous events [5][6][7]. Also, some studies suggest providing effective maintenance to the network [8][9].…”

“…Transport safety as a modern phenomenon in transport (Pupavac, 2009) is also an important factor in the competitiveness of railway transport in the transport market. In order to provide continuous service and optimum reliability, the rail industry must assure its safety against accidents occurring on its property (El-Koursi and Bruyelle, 2016). Safety is the main issue of railway transportation.…”
