Abstract

Re: Workup of Carotid Calcifications With reference to the discussion by Drs. Hall [ I ] and Castillo [21, we draw attention to our study [3] ofcarotid calcification in patients referred for assessment of extracranial cerebrovascular disease. The potential value of carotid calcification as a marker of disease was assessed by comparison of the presence and degree of stenosis as shown by IV digital angiography and duplex sonography. The likelihood ratio for the presence of a carotid artery disease and would prevent some of the neurologic sequelae from stroke.
