The government succeeded in designing the curriculum but the obstacles in literacy, mathematics, and science were constrained in implementation so that further performance was held. This study aims to analyse the independent curriculum's implementation on literacy in Indonesian language skills in grade 4 elementary school. This type of research is qualitative. The approach used is a qualitative research approach. Participants in this study were students in grade 4 (four) elementary schools, teachers, and principals. Data collection techniques were carried out through data triangulation (combined). The instrument used in collecting data is a questionnaire. The data analysis technique consists of data collection, data reduction, presentation of data, and concluding/verification. The study results prove that the pattern of applying the independent curriculum to literacy in Indonesian language lessons in grade 4 can be used with 4 (four) applications. First, there is literacy training both in class and outside the classroom. Second, parenting students. Third, collaboration between class teachers and school principals regarding school programs implemented in class. Fourth is the habit of reading. With these four applications, it is hoped that students' literacy skills can be evenly distributed throughout Indonesia so that the generation of the Indonesian nation can become the younger generation by producing the best achievements.

In order to make the teaching and learning reading process run effectively, it is important to consider the suitability of reading activities which contain in English textbook. This study aims to analyze reading-related activities that are available in English textbook for Grade 9 and observe how the reading texts are exploited in English classes by the English teacher. This study employed qualitative descriptive method in which the data collection was done through document analysis, classroom observation, and interview. The data were analyzed by the criteria of reading-related activities. The result showed that, there are several reading-related activities discovered from the English textbook of grade 9. Then, reading-related activities that occurred most frequently in the textbook are skimming/scanning-details (short answer) and questioning-short answer. Meanwhile, the English teacher use text exploitation strategies. According to the interview, the English teacher mostly relied on the existing reading activities in the English textbook. Thus, the use of English textbook in teaching and learning, especially the use of reading activities it is very essential in developing students' reading skill.

Fluent reading is one of the important components that must be mastered by students. However, the reality in the field shows that the ability of students to read fluently is still low and the lack of media used to help students read fluently. This study aims to develop a product in the form of a pop-up book media based on the APACIN learning model to improve students' fluent reading skills. This research is classified as development research (R&D) which was developed using the ADDIE model. The subjects involved in this study were two lecturers as a media validation test and material validation test, class teachers, and class students. Data collection is done by using a questionnaire. The data that has been collected were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques. The results of the study obtained a score of validation values from the experts, the score from the material expert obtained an average value of material expert validation of 94.55% with a very high category and the score from the media validation test obtained an average media validation value of 95.2% very high category. The results of the teacher response questionnaire obtained an average score of 85.2% in the very high category and the average student response validation was 82.9 in the very high category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the pop-up book media based on the APACIN learning model is very effectively used to improve the fluent reading ability of 1st grade elementary school students.
