Real-time observation of multi-soliton asynchronous pulsations in an L-band dissipative soliton fiber laser

Abstract: Based on the experimental platform of an L-band normal-dispersion mode-locked fiber laser, we report the first observation, to our knowledge, of three novel types of multi-soliton asynchronous pulsation phenomena by virtue of the dispersive Fourier transform technique. The experimental results provide new insights into the complex multi-soliton dynamics under unstable mode-locking conditions. It is confirmed that more than one pulsating solution can coexist in a multi-pulse situation and that each soliton may … Show more

“…Real-time spectrum characterization of multi-soliton complexes in a normal dispersion passively mode-locked fiber laser recorded by the DFT technique revealed the existence of multi-soliton complexes containing nine distinct single-soliton pulsations [113]. Each soliton might evolve periodically in a different way and present the typical characteristic of soliton pulsations in a multi-solitons complex containing one pulsating three-soliton molecule and one pulsating single-soliton [127]. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the dynamics of multi-soliton passively mode-locked fiber lasers.…”

“…A variety of soliton transient dynamics was observed in passively mode-locked fiber lasers adopting the DFT technique: the build-up of dissipative soliton pulsation, [14] successive soliton explosion, [15] explosion induced rogue waves. [16] Breathing behavior of dissipative soliton pulsation, [17][18][19] multiple soliton pulsation, [20,21] dissipative soliton explosion [22] and the pulsating soliton molecule [23] are observed in the normal dispersion NPR mode-locked fiber laser by the DFT. In the anomalous dispersion region, the soliton pulsation with chaotic behavior [24] and the soliton pulsation sideband characteristics [12] are also studied.…”

“…[8,9] Through time-stretch method, the pulse spectrum can be mapped into a temporal waveform to obtain the real-time spectral information. Hence, utilizing DFT, various complex ultrafast nonlinear phenomena, such as soliton explosions, [10][11][12] soliton pulsations, [13,14] and soliton buildup dynamics, [15][16][17] as well as internal motions of soliton molecule, [18][19][20] have been well investigated.…”
