Real-Time Simulation of a Rescue Ship Maneuvering in Short-Crested Irregular Waves

Abstract: Research on the mathematical model and the real-time simulation of the ship motion is investigated. An equation of three degrees of freedom (DOF) nonlinear maneuvering motion is established by means of the unified model in short-crested irregular waves in deep water. The resistance and propulsion dynamics are modeled by the classical methods as well as forces and moments of the rudder and the viscous crossflow. The three-dimensional boundary element method (BEM) using Green function source is adopted to solve … Show more

“…Moreover, the vast majority of authors are experienced seafarers who reflect in their work personal experience in managing ships in extreme conditions. Thus, in the work of authors [17] the evaluation and construction of structural modular mathematical model to forecast ship's maneuverability is performed. It was also performed for modeling real-time maneuvering depending on the influence of natural factors, among which one of the main is the wind.…”

“…Therefore, numerical simulations are applied to enhance the safety of navigation in the maritime sector [4]. In addition, the simulation of ship motion in waves is a key component of marine simulators [5]. Precise motion prediction would ensure the physical reality of the simulators.…”

“…A high simulation fidelity usually involves very many convoluting concepts, and is data-intensive and computationally demanding. For example, it performs the mapping from the frequency spectrum of the observed stochastic ocean wave data, to the nonlinear dynamical response of the marine vehicle in time domain while simultaneously, taking into account of the hydrodynamic reactions, onboard payload, and sailing conditions [78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85]. As a result, it requires a very powerful software tool.…”
