Reassessment of Antigenic Determinant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Serotype Ia

Abstract: We examined the immunochemical structure of the antigenic determinant of S. cerevisiae serotype Ia. The specific factor serum for S. cerevisiae serotype Ia was obtained either from factor 18 serum by adsorption with heat-killed cells of Candida glabrata, or from anti-S. cerevisiae Ia (M 6001) serum by adsorption with heat-killed cells of S. cerevisiae Ib (IFO 0751).We designated this adsorbed serum as factor 18a. Acetolysis of S. cerevisiae cell wall D-mannan gave five oligosaccharides.Signals of 1 H-nuclear m… Show more

“…The 1 H NMR spectrum of NF‐2‐1 was identical with the spectrum of the α‐Man‐(1→3)‐Man standard. The 1 H NMR spectra of both NF‐2–1 and NF‐1 were identical to previous data for α‐(1→3)‐linked mannobiose and mannotriose [10]. FACE analyses of the neutral oligosaccharide fractions are shown in Fig.…”

“…The procedure described by Nishikawa et al . [10] was used. Factor II serum was prepared from anti‐( T. asahii ) serum by adsorption with T. cutaneum IFO 1198 (serotype I) and T. domesticum (serotype III).…”

“…Thus, it has long been thought that type 1 fimbriae of enterobacteria were functionally quite similar and that the primary essential characteristic of any potential receptor was the presence of terminal ot-3-linked mannosyl residues. (38). The majority of the carbohydrate of human plasma Fn is composed of N-glycosidic complex-type biantennary glycans, and no high-mannose-type or hybrid-type N-glycans have been described (30,45,54).…”

“…Furthermore, the oligosaccharides synthesized by using enzymes of C. albicans and C. guilliermondii cells were labeled by the addition of small letters, a and g, respectively. Substrate oligosaccharides, Man␣132Man␣132Man␣132Man (AMan 4 ), and Man␣13 3Man␣132Man␣132Man␣132Man (AMan 5 ) were prepared from C. albicans mannan (24), Man␣133Man␣132Man␣132Man (SMan 4 ) and Man␣133Man␣133Man␣132Man␣132Man (SMan 5 ) were from S. cerevisiae serotype Ia mannan (27) 5 , and SMan 5 , respectively, using the ␣-1,6-mannosyltransferase of C. albicans NIH B-792 cells followed by the method described in a previous paper (23).…”
