“…Each of these “gifts” is voluntary, but not benign in significance. Instead, it is a practice of religious teachings and an offering to God via one's support of community (Buggenhagen 2011, 115–16; 2012, 84–85; Cochrane 2017, 92–94; Mittermaier 2019, 3; Taylor 2018, 269). Economic studies of Islamic business ethics as religious practices also inform this discussion.…”

“…Drawing on existing research in the field, one could read Kazim's work against the backdrop of recent literature on the intersection of Islam and economy, which has pointed to the complex ways in which piety and entrepreneurial ideologies connect (e.g. Atia 2013; Rudnyckyj 2010Rudnyckyj , 2017Taylor 2015Taylor , 2018. One could also draw links to recent literature on the intimate relationship between a Muslim masculine self (Marsden 2007) and neoliberal subjectivity (Osella and Osella 2009), or to Fassin's (2012) notion of humanitarianism as a form of global government that appeals to emotions and makes evident the fascination and guiding affective force that emanate from exemplary humanitarian individuals such as the aforementioned Bill Gates, Mother Teresa and Abdul Sattar Edhi.…”

Efforts to improve the provision of financing from these sources, among others, carried out by polling performance improvements, enhancements and additional types of taxes as well as providing flexibility for regions to explore sources of revenue, such as local taxes, charity, and donation (Aliyev, 2018, Kuran, 2018Taylor, 2018;Abdulfatah, 2019 andMohseni, 2019). Local taxes have been conducted energetically but has not been able to incubate poverty, let alone make Batam as the World Port of Madani where people should have the outer and inner happiness is called maslahah.…”
