Recent advances in antibacterial drugs

Abstract: The incidence of antimicrobial resistance is on continued rise with a threat to return to the “pre-antibiotic” era. This has led to emergence of such bacterial infections which are essentially untreatable by the current armamentarium of available treatment options. Various efforts have been made to develop the newer antimicrobials with novel modes of action which can act against these multi-drug resistant strains. This review aims to focus on these newly available and investigational antibacterials approved af… Show more

“…To sum up, antibiotic resistance will continue to rise rapidly during the next decades and new strategies will be needed to fight human pathogens such as L. monocytogenes [39,41]. In the present manuscript we have unveiled some potential new PrfA inhibitors that target the virulence of L. monocytogenes rather than the conventional regulatory pathways.…”

“…To circumvent this threat novel antibiotic analogs are being designed, new antibiotic combinations are being considered, promising bioenhancers are being explored and novel nanomaterials and nanoparticles are also being considered [38][39][40][41]. Unfortunately, it does not seem that in the short term these strategies alone will alleviate the current situation.…”

“…Phosphors are widely utilized as a light source in our daily life for long time. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] Phosphors are composed of two parts: a host crystal and an activator. Specific properties of both components as well as their interactions critically determine the emission efficiency of a particular phosphor.…”
