Recent applications of gas chromatography with high‐resolution mass spectrometry

Abstract: Gas chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry is a powerful analytical method that combines excellent separation power of gas chromatography with improved identification based on an accurate mass measurement. These features designate gas chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry as the first choice for identification and structure elucidation of unknown volatile and semivolatile organic compounds. Gas chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry quantitative analyses was … Show more

“…Recent innovations in GC-MS technology has also led to the introduction of a number of high resolution GC-MS systems for structural elucidation and trace analysis. 274 The capability of GC coupled to HRMS for structural characterization to deliver process development and understanding has been demonstrated by several groups. 275,276 Baldwin and co-workers used accurate mass GC-electron ionization (EI)-MS and GC-chemical ionization (CI)-MS data to accurately characterize and quantify low level impurities in starting materials.…”

“…GC–MS is arguably the well suited and popular analytical platform for metabolomics studies as it can separate the peaks with greater resolution and precision due to the use of capillary columns . In recent times, GC–MS based metabolomics was adopted to determine fruit metabolic profiling during development and maturation in strawberry, peach and a comparative study on fruit quality in certain fruits like mango, jackfruit, baobab, pineapple, and tamarind for the benefit of consumer's health.…”

“…Capillary gas chromatography (GC) is one of efficient separation techniques in petrochemical engineering, environmental protection, food analysis, and biological medicine because of its inherent advantages of high resolving capability and selectivity, fast analysis speed, as well as low cost [1,2,3,4]. As the core component in GC system, a stationary phase with high selectivity enables effective separation of analytes with close nature.…”
