Recent applications of ninhydrin in multicomponent reactions

Abstract: This article aims to review recent multicomponent reactions of ninhydrin towards diverse organic scaffolds, such as indeno-fused heterocycles, spiro-indeno heterocycles, quinoxalines, propellanes, cage-like compounds, and dispiro heterocycles.

“…17 Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) enjoy an outstanding reputation in organic and medicinal chemistry for their high degree of atomic economy and application in the diversity oriented convergent synthesis of complex organic molecules from simple and readily available layers in a single vessel; they full some of the objectives of perfect synthesis because complex products are formed in a single step and diversity can be obtained simply by varying the reaction components. [18][19][20][21][22][23][24] In continuation of our previously reported work on catalytic reactions, 25,26 herein we report the preparation of MnFe 2 O 4 @CSn-Bu-SO 3 H MNPs and their use as an efficient nanocatalyst for the synthesis of 5-phenyl-spiro[diindenopyridineindenoquinoxaline]-dione derivatives through the condensation of ninhydrin, 1,2-diamino-benzene, 1,3-indandione and various anilines under thermal conditions (Scheme 1).…”

“…Next, 1 mL of Bacillus extract solution was transferred into a dry test tube, and 1 mL of distilled water was added to another dry test tube as a negative control. Then, two to three drops of ninhydrin were added to each test tube, and both were gently warmed in a water bath (30–40 °C) for 5 min [ 38 ].…”

“…Typically, MCRs are defined as one-pot reactions with more than two starting materials join to generate a desired single product of the reagent atoms 1 , 12 . Comparison to multistep reactions, MCRs offer a high atom economy, simple procedures, selectivity, environmental friendliness, time and energy saving 8 , 9 , 13 . In this regard various heterogeneous and homogeneous (Transition metals, transition metal complexes or supported metals) catalysts are employed in MCRs to increase selectivity and rate of the reaction 4 , 14 .…”
