Recent geomorphological changes in the Paraiba do Sul delta, South America East Coast

Abstract: The Paraiba do Sul River delta, a South America east coast system, presents deposits recording complex sedimentary dynamics in the deltaic plain during the Little Ice Age (LIA). The use of optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating, sediment grain-size characterization, and morpho-chronological analysis showed that from ∼450 to 100years (LIA period), both in lower to upper deltaic plain, remodeling occurred in conjunction with the coastline regression. The freshwater and sediment influx increases due to th… Show more

“…From this perspective, Souza et al (2022) did not disregard the works published in the last 30 years, as mentioned by the commenters. Our article came to fill this gap in the literature on the dynamics of PSRD and launch insights on the delta evolution considering the river and modern literature about it and advancing the scientific knowledge about the area.…”

“…Furthermore, in the comments, the authors state that "according to Souza et al (2022), the geomorphological evolution occurs mainly during the Little Ice Age (LIA: ∼1400 -1850 CE)." The commenters use parts from our article to state that Souza et al (2022) considered the PSRD geomorphological evolution that occurred mainly during the LIA.…”
